Betty McLean Main
PORTLAND - Betty McLean Main, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones.
Betty was born August 30, 1927, in Rudyard, Michigan the daughter of the late Andrew Harvey and Frances Megquier McLean. At a young age the family moved to Maine where she resided the rest of her life, although she often reminisced about life in Michigan.
Betty traveled extensively throughout the United States in RV’s and on a motorcycle, with Calvin Main and their dog Tanya riding with them. She loved to tell of the adventures they had together. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching all types of movies, and spending time with her family and friends. Her smile and good nature would light up any room. Everyone she met was amazed and inspired by her spirit and every day was the best day of her life, even throughout her illness.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Calvin Main; a sister Doris D’Alfonso and two brothers Albert and Harold McLean. She is survived by her beloved daughter Diane and her husband Bruce Warren who took care of her every need; a special niece Sandra D’Alfonso and her fiancé Jay Lawrence whom she had many adventures with; a son Alan and his wife Brenda Swasey; stepdaughter Sharron Drew and her life partner Michael Moon and her former husband and best friend Walter “Bud” Swasey. Betty is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved their “Nana” very much. She will be greatly missed by all.
The family wishes to express grateful appreciation to all those who made Betty’s last month’s so comfortable. Special thanks to the staff at both the Barron Center Zolov Unit and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Coastal Cremation Services, 471 Deering Ave, Portland, Maine.
