Lorelei Robie
GORHAM - Mrs. Lorelei Robie died in Gorham, Me February 1, 2013. She passed peacefully from this life to the next with family at her side.
The daughter of Kathyrn Cushman and Leon Otis Douglas, Lorelei Arlene Douglas was born in Augusta, Maine, May 10, 1921. She graduated from Cony High School with high honors where she was an active participant in her class, sports, orchestra and band. Lorelei was instrumental in later life in gathering her classmates together for memorial reunions. She graduated from Sargent College with honors in 1943.
Her marriage to John W. Robie took place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Augusta, June 22, 1943. As an Air Force wife, Lorelei lived all over the world. Jock Douglas Robie was born at Randolf field in Texas in 1944, after living in Hung Jo China for several years her second son Greg Cushman Robie was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1951. Mark Baird Robie was born in the Hague, Netherlands in 1955. After a tour of duty in England the Robies returned to the United States. Lorelei taught Kindergarten in the Cornwall, New York area for nine years.
They retired to Maine, first to Lorelei’s beloved camp in South China Maine, then to her old family home, the Cushman farm in Winslow and spent their remaining years making friends and building community in the area. Lorelei had a faith in the Lord that knew no bounds, a gift for making friends and love for her family that was the center of her life. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were blessed by her freely given companionship, her writings for and to them and her abiding love.
Lorelei is predeceased by her husband John W. Robie who passed away in 2001, after 57 years of marriage.
She is survived by her children; son Jock Robie and his wife Susan of Gorham, Maine, their children Douglas J. Robie, Seth P. Robie and his wife Kristen Johns Robie , Alice A. Robie; Seth & Kristen’s children Kailyn, Samuel and Keira; son Greg Robie and his wife Tina McCreight Robie of Cornwall, New York and their children Jessica Robie, and Tanya Robie; son Mark of Rangley, Maine, his wife Deborah Sutton Robie of Kingfield, Maine and their son Leon Robie.
A celebration of Lorelei’s life will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 9 Summer Street, Augusta, Maine on March 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM followed by a reception in St. Mark's Church Hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of Coastal Cremation Services, 471 Deering Ave., Portland.
