SCARBOROUGH - Katherine T. Maccario, 83, of Schooner Rd, died peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with her loving family by her side.
Katherine was born on May 3, 1929 in Saugus, MA the daughter of Charles and Marguerite Spottiswoode Damory. Katherine attended school in Saugus Massachusetts.  She married Vincent P. Maccario in 1949 and together they made their home and raised their family in Massachusetts.
Katherine worked for Eastern Tool Manufacturing, retiring in the mid-nineties, after more than fifteen years of service. Katherine was a very sociable person who could put a smile on everyone’s face.  To meet Katherine or “Kay” as she was known to many was to love her. She was “Nanny” not only to her many grandchildren, but also to all of their friends. She and her husband enjoyed many winters in Florida, before permanently residing in Scarborough with her daughter and family. She enjoyed growing and passing out Aloe plants to all her family and friends. When Katherine began losing her vision, it was then that she became involved with programs through the Iris Network and never let her poor eyesight stop her from enjoying life to the fullest. She was always keeping up on current events listening to the radio and knew what was going on before anybody else.  She had a great love of animals, music, and spending time on the beach with her family. Having friends and neighbors visit her was always a great highlight in her day. She was a great lady.
Katherine was predeceased by a sister Charlotte Petkavitch.  She is survived by her husband Vincent P. Maccario of Scarborough, a daughter Dale and her husband Don Perry of Scarborough, two sons James and his wife Lisa Maccario and Robert Maccario all of MA, along with nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister Hope and her husband Frank Nerden of MA; As well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30am on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Chapel of Cheverus High School, Ocean Ave, Portland, Maine.  Burial will be at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction of Coastal Cremation Services, 471 Deering Ave, Portland, ME.
