James Vernon Gibson, Sr.
Portland- James Vernon Gibson Sr., of Portland, died October 3, 2013 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough following a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Portland on August 17, 1939, a son of Vernon and Helen (Daly) Gibson. He graduated from Portland High School and served in the United States Navy.
He married Alvera R. Booth on August 25, 1962.
James worked for Shaw’s Supermarket where he retired.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, a sister, Janice Regan and brothers-in-law Neal Booth and Howard Ingerson
Survivors include his wife, Vera of Portland; daughter, Paula G. Small and husband Eric of South Portland; sons, James V. Gibson Jr. of Gray and Mark L. Gibson of Gray; sister, Barbara Ingerson of Concord, NH; sisters In-Law Vivian Dougherty and husband Jack of Portland and Carol Gale and husband Michael of Howell, NJ; brothers In-Law Edwin Booth and wife Vicki of Portland, Ronald Booth and wife Izzy of Windham, Carl Booth and wife Cheri of Windham , David Booth and wife Kathy of Portland, Peter Booth and wife Diane of Berlin, NH , Paul Booth of Portland and Arthur Regan of South Portland; grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth and Timothy Small all of South Portland.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved Yorkie, Sweetpea.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at Spring Meadows Golf course at 59 Lewiston Rd, Gray, on Sunday, October 20, 2013, beginning at 12 noon.
