Louise Murphy Vincent

January 7, 2014

Westbrook – Louise Murphy Vincent passed away peacefully at the age of 95 in her Westbrook home on January 7, 2014.  She was born in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Francis McGuire Murphy and James Murphy.  She graduated from Portland High School in 1937.

Louise was a kind, considerate, loving woman with a wonderfully sharp sense of humor.  She would often explain to family and friends, “The reason I am still around is because the Lord isn’t ready for me and the devil doesn’t want me.”  Louise was proud of her Irish heritage.  She loved to read, watch Boston Celtic games on TV and do the daily jumble puzzle in the Portland Press Herald.  She was an avid walker for over thirty years.  Throughout her life she helped others through her community service work and support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals.  There were many things in life that Louise enjoyed, but most important of all was her family and the wonderful times they spent together.  She was indeed a gem to everyone.

Louise was married for forty-five years to Roland A. Vincent who passed away in 1991.  They were a happy, loving Christian couple who cherished time spent with their family.  She is survived by her daughters, Ann Carmichael and her husband Richard of Wells, Katherine Herbert and her husband Kerry of Windham and a son Robert Vincent and his wife Nancy Poffenbaugh of North Carolina, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, January 17, 2014 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 268 Brown St. Westbrook.  A graveside ceremony will be held this summer followed by a celebration of her life.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her memory to:
