Lillian Plourde Richards
Scarborough - Lillian Plourde Richards passed away on Saturday, June 28, after living a wonderful and fulfilling life. She was born in Van Buren, Maine on November 21, 1932. Her parents were Clifford Plourde and Janet Paradis, also from Van Buren, Maine. She married Rodney Richards in 1954 and moved back to Van Buren where Rodney worked as a pharmacist in the family store, Richards’ Pharmacy.
Four children and their families survive Lillian. The eldest child, Anne Richards, lives in Topsham, ME. Her only son, Scott Richards, lives in Madawaska, ME, with his wife Carole and their children, Julia and Samuel. The third child, Lynne Richards lives in Portland, ME. And finally the youngest, Kathryn Beveridge lives in Arrowsic, ME with her husband Rick and their children William, Alec and Tristan.
Lillian was a registered nurse and a graduate of Mercy Hospital's School of Nursing, class of 1953. She practiced nursing at Mercy Hospital in Portland, then at the Deaconess Hospital in Boston and finally in Van Buren where she and her husband settled and raised a family. She also taught Health classes at Van Buren District Secondary School. Many teenagers will remember her forthrightness and practical lessons in living. Her children will never forget her unwavering love and care for them.
There will be a memorial service in Trenton, ME, her summer home, on July 12 from 2-5pm. It will be a celebration of life service where friends and family can share stories about her life and laugh and grieve together. In life and in death, the exchange of healing love is what she would want for all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers or condolences, the family suggests a donation instead, to a project called "Fields for our Future". Checks can be written in that name and mailed to: Fields For Our Future, 146 Spinney Mill Road, Arrowsic, Me 04530.
Lillian was a dedicated supporter of Fields for Our Future, a nonprofit co-chaired by her daughter Kathryn, which helps improve athletic fields and facilities in Mid Coast Maine. Living a healthy life was something Lillian taught, lived and supported in any way she could. In her honor, the family wishes to support this project where her grandchildren and area children can play, and learn the joy of good health through athletics.
