Portland - Mary Louise (Dodge) Johnson died at her home on August 16, 2014, with her two children at her side. The daughter of J Gordon and Helen Dodge, she was born in Lowell, MA on June 8, 1935, raised in Cumberland, and lived most of her adult life in Portland.
She was predeceased by her sister, Marion Best, and her husband, Bernard Johnson. Mary graduated from Greeley High School and attended the University of Maine. She had a long and respected career with the Portland school system and after retirement, made a second career with the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church, working until the age of 77.
She is survived by her loving family; daughter Pamela Fischer Spaulding and her husband Scott Spaulding, and daughter Susan Scott, as well as her niece Lauri Gaudet and husband Bob Gaudet, and niece Julie Best and husband Bobby Love. Mary lived her life gently and valued kindness and compassion above all else. The family will celebrate her life privately.
