Henry Dickerson "H.D." Wagener, 82, of Portland, ME, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Nov. 1, 2014.  H.D. was born to Wortley Elizabeth Dickerson and Hunter Temple Wagener on Oct. 19, 1932, in Richmond, VA.  He enjoyed many childhood summers at his family's cabin on the Rappahannock River with his three older siblings, Molly, Hunter, and Francis.  After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, H.D. received a Bachelor's degree from Washington and Lee University in 1950.  He served in the Army Counterintelligence Corp from 1954-1957, after which he attended the University of North Carolina as a graduate student in Geology.  He received a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Chapel Hill, NC, and subsequently was accepted as a member of faculty at the Citadel.  H.D. published many Geological research papers over his 30 year career in the Earth Sciences. He fell in love with New England and moved to Maine in 1978.  In his later years, H.D. was an avid meditator and spiritual seeker.  He published three books of poetry with the help of his wife Marion; some of his poems can be read on his website, hdpoetry.com.

He leaves behind his wife, Marion Lundgren, his children Kathy, Son Vo, Jael, Kyla, and Justin, their mother Judy Plano, and his grandchildren Max and Samuel Bronsnick.

Services will be held Sunday, November, 16 at 3 PM at the Quaker meeting house, 1837 Forest Ave., Portland.
