Wayne Anthony Smith, 56, passed away peacefully on February 21st, after a brief illness. Wayne was born on January 16, 1959, in Portland, Maine. He graduated from South Portland High School and always remained a faithful “Red Riot”. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed golfing and watching any sport on TV, especially racing.

For many years Wayne was employed by Martins Office Products. More recently, showing his true entrepreneurial talent, Wayne was the owner of Kitchen & Cork, Scarborough while also maintaining his online sports apparel web store, JESmittys.com

In his younger years Wayne could be found swimming in Brandy Pond and playing ball at the Bay of Naples Campground with siblings and numerous cousins. He had many happy times camping with his extended family and friends  including fishing, nights by the fire, card playing and always the “long way” home. Many of us will remember crazy fun racing trips including Daytona, Loudon and every track in between.

He is survived by his wife Jane St.Pierre, of Scarborough, daughters Rebecca and Jessica Shorey, mother Madeleine (Dottie) Duval, brother Robert E. Smith Jr. and Mark C. Duval and wife Anne.  Sisters Judith E. Colby and Maureen Kelly Humiston and husband Lee and brother-in- law Martin E. Flaherty.  Wayne is predeceased by his father Robert E. Smith Sr. and sister Doreen Duval -Flaherty. Wayne is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and the St.Pierre family including his mother-in-law Mary Agnes St.Pierre. Wayne made many lifelong friends along the way and will surely be missed.

There will be a graveside service at Brooklawn Memorial Park in the spring.  Good friends and family will gather Thursday, February 26th, 6pm at Salt Water Grille, South Portland.

Because of the many fun times Wayne had with his brothers, cousins and friends  at the Boys Club, donations can be made in his name to The South Portland Boys & Girls Club, 169 Broadway, South Portland, Maine   04106
