Melody Driscoll, born in Lewiston, ME on May 30, 1946 to Frank and Margaret Driscoll, passed away at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough on November 30, 2015. Although she was ill for some time, she was able to rest comfortably during her final days and her life came to a very peaceful end.
Melody attended Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine and Gorham State Teachers College graduating in 1968. A devoted teacher for 44 years, she taught primarily 4th grade at Memorial and Dunn schools in New Gloucester, ME. Early in her career, she also taught at Spencer School in Middletown, CT. Melody believed that teaching was her true calling in life, which she was evidenced by the countless students she inspired, mentored, and genuinely cherished.
Melody’s love of animals closely rivaled her love of children. For many years, she took pleasure in breeding and showing award-winning Tibetan Terriers. She also cared for dogs in need and was involved with several rescue organizations. Nearest to her heart was Maine Greyhound Placement Services and her love of greyhounds led to her to bring several into her home over the years. Melody was also very interested in birds of many varieties. For over 20 years, she owned a very loving and talkative African Grey parrot named Sophie as well as parakeets, cockatiels and a green cheek conure.
Melody enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She loved going to the movies and watching Jeopardy, especially with her daughter, to whom she was very close.
Melody was very involved in theater in the Twin Cities, working on productions at Out of the Box Theatre and most notably, at Community Little Theater of Auburn. There she exercised her love of words by prompting countless shows over a span of 25 seasons.
Melody is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Robin Driscoll.
