Randall James Locke, 71, of Biddeford, died from acute symptoms of Parkinson’s on February 5, 2016 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME.
 
Randall was born May 18, 1944 in Lowell, MA. His name in early infancy was Peter Holden. He was the adopted son of James Victor Locke and Thelma Pauline (Camic) Locke.  He is survived by his wife of 51 years Heather Walker Locke of Biddeford, ME, his son Geoffrey Walker Locke, Ph.D. and his partner John Celentano of Northampton, MA, his brothers Robert C. Locke and his wife, Marian, of Danvers, MA and Kenneth W. Holden and his wife, Helen, of Tewksbury, MA, his sister Deanne (Holden) McNabb and her husband Lee McNabb of Orland Park, IL, his sister-in-law Lynne M. (Walker) Wallask and her husband Neil Wallask of Hernando, FL.
 
Known to all as Randy, he grew up in Malden, MA graduating from Malden High School class of 1962. He earned a B.Ed. (1966) and M.Ed. (1970) from Keene State College, Keene, NH. He taught in the Chesterfield School, Chesterfield, NH from 1966-1967 then in the Keene Public Schools from 1967-1992.
 
He was the former president of the Keene Ed. Assoc. and former delegate from Keene to the NH Ed. Assoc. for sixteen years.
 
He was active in the Keene UU Church from 1968-2000 serving as Pres. of the Board of Trustees, Chair of the Canvass Committee and Chair of Property Committee for many years. Having moved from Keene, NH to Biddeford, ME in 2000, he was a past member of the Saco UU Church and First Parish Kennebunk UU Church.
 
Randy was an avid sports enthusiast and loved the outdoors. He could be found skating, skiing, climbing mountains, snowshoeing, playing golf and tennis, and sailing on Spofford Lake in NH. On the sidelines of the playing fields of Keene State College and UNE in Biddeford he could be found for the last five decades cheering on the college teams. Beyond sports, he loved his garden, esp. the rich, warm soil in the Keene, NH valley.
 
He was an alumnus of the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School 30 day survival course, a past member of Spofford Yacht Club’s Lightning Fleet in Spofford, NH, and past member of Bretwood Golf Course, Keene, NH. He was a member of Fortunes Rocks Assoc. and Biddeford Pool Community Club in Biddeford, ME, and a facilitator for the Saco Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. He was a past member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and a volunteer for many years at the Mustang Rescue Bush Brook Stable in Biddeford.
 
Randy’s family remains deeply grateful for 15 years of compassionate and dedicated care from Dr. Bruce Blackman of Psychiatric Associates of Biddeford.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First Parish Portland, UU Church, 425 Congress St., Portland, ME.
