Mahlon Lloyd "Mick" Lary, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Elbridge S.P. and Dorothy Marilla (Gilks) Lary of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and his first wife of 32 years, Beverly Anne Bell Lary from Saco, Maine who passed away in 1984. Mahlon graduated from Thornton Academy and University of New Hampshire with a degree in mechanical engineering. After years of working as an engineer throughout the northeast, Mahlon spent 29 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and was awarded Professional Engineer status. He spent more than 24 in the Submarine Maintenance Engineering and Planning and Procurement (SUBMEPP) department and received recognition for his dedicated service. In 1952, Mahlon married Beverly Anne Bell, and together they raised four children and settled in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Mahlon had a talent for music and a passion for the outdoors that he instilled in his children and grandchildren. He played the piano, trumpet, and banjo and spent many years singing baritone for the Oceanaires Barbershop Quartet and the Portland Downeasters Barbershop Chorus. He enjoyed all aspects of camping, fishing, hiking, gardening, motorcycling and spending time outside with his family. Mahlon started a family tradition of taking a yearly trip to Mt. Katahdin that is continued to this day by his children and grandchildren. A love of the ocean is also something that Mahlon will be remembered for. He loved to dig clams, and was an avid saltwater fisherman --  known around Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough as the "man on the Triumph motorcycle carrying a ten foot fishing pole!”  In 1992, Mahlon married Marie White Peaslee, and together they enjoyed 24 years of retirement exploring the United States and Canada in their camper.

He is survived by his wife Marie Lary of Cape Elizabeth, ME, his sister Joy and husband Vernie "Toby" Heird of St Pawley's Island , SC, his children Scott and Vena Lary of Glenburn, ME, Steven and Jane Lary of Camden, ME, Sherri King of Ithaca, NY, and Sandra Lary and Albert Lane of Woolwich, ME.  He has six grandchildren Brynn Lary Moulton, Douglas Lary, Catherine Lary, Benjamin Lary, Alaina King, and Christina King, and one great grandson Caleb Moulton. Mahlon and Marie were visited often by step daughter Paula O'Leary, husband Jim and family. Entire step family consists of 13 children, 22 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
