Francis “Frank” Leonard Henry Wood III, 81, died on March 27, 2017, in Portland, ME, following a brief illness.   He was born on April 3, 1936, in Norwalk, CT, the son of the late FLH “Leonard” II and Virginia Julia (Tyrrell) Wood.  He was known as “Frank” to many but always as “Henry” to his family.

Frank graduated from Amityville High School in 1954 and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps.  He enjoyed a military-style Mediterranean cruise and forever after loved to travel.  He was always proud of the Corps and would strike up a conversation with fellow veterans about their time serving.  He fell in love and married Eileen F. (Shea) in 1963 and celebrated 38 years of marriage until her death in 2001.  In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by two sons, FLH “Henry” IV and John, a daughter Heather Marie, and brother David.  He is survived by his friend Phyllis Hunt of Portland, ME, brother Michael and his wife Gail of Palm Shores, FL, sister Susan Wood-Tremblay and her husband Paul of Melrose, MA, sister-in-laws Patricia Sinclair of Randolph, MA,  Lynda Vantine and her husband Edward, nephews Mark, Alex and Edward Sinclair, Bruce and Wayne Wood, and nieces Debra Block, Michelle Thibodeau, Jennifer Sinclair and Caitlin Vantine.

Frank had a long career in machine maintenance and worked for many companies over the years, eventually retiring from Bridgeport's wastewater treatment facility in CT.  He loved the Southwest U.S. and has a fine collection of bolo ties, boots and hats.  Henry's family will tell you he was a generous man who never missed sending a card and calling on your birthday.  He was excellent at giving directions and knew the names of streets and roadways throughout the country.  He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on June 10, 2017, at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Read Memorial Chapel, 2675 North Avenue, Bridgeport at 11:30 AM.
