Lloyd Irving Drinkwater,90, of Portland, passed away March 30, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. He was born July 8, 1926 in South Thomaston, Maine to Earle B. and Harlene A. (Drake) Drinkwater.
Lloyd attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1947 after serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Following graduation he became an electrician and worked for 40 years until his retirement on December 31, 1988. He married Phyllis M. DeLong on February 26, 1955 in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada.
Lloyd was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed collecting minerals, traveling (especially to Alaska), and camping in the Northern Maine Woods. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #567, Coastal Maine Mineral Club, and the Woodfords Club.
Lloyd was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis, brother, Kenneth, sisters, Marilyn Milliken, and Tharon Milliken. He is survived by his son, Scott Drinkwater of Westbrook; son, Kirk Drinkwater and Caroline Jacobson of Pownal; daughter, Laurie Maldari and her husband David of Leominster, MA; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Sarah, and Kevin Maldari of Leominster, MA; brother, Ashley Drinkwater and his wife Diana of Spruce Head, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
