Harold "Rick" Hobson Jr.
March 26, 1948
May 20, 2017

Harold “Rick” Hobson Jr. passed away on May 20, 2017, after a lengthy illness.  Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on March 26, 1948, he was the son of M. Doris Hobson and Harold Hobson.  He grew up in Westwood, MA where he attended Westwood High School, graduating in 1967.  It was here where he met his future wife of 48 years, Barbara Amendola.  Rick was known to jokingly say “I married my prom date!”
Rick graduated from Bryant and Stratton College in 1969 and pursued a career in Management at Lechmere Sales before accepting a position as Buyer for the John Sexton Company.  He then went on to become General Manager for the Callahan Sales Company in Needham, MA.
Throughout his life, Rick always loved being on the ocean.  He loved sailing on his boat, ‘The Cortina’, named for his daughters Corissa and Christine.  During this time in addition to his full time job, raising a family and sailing, Rick undertook the daunting task of renovating several houses.  Rick became such an apt carpenter that friends and relatives would frequently ask him to help with their home renovating projects, and he always would with a smile!
In the early 90’s, he finally had the opportunity to move to Maine and realize his dream of living by the ocean.  He moved the family to Kennebunkport where he undertook renovating the family cottage into a year-round home.  Upon completion of this final project, he threw his hammer away and said he was “done as a builder” and bought a 45 foot fishing boat he planned on urchining and lobstering with.  Unfortunately, injuries from a serious car accident brought these plans to an abrupt end.  In spite of the resulting physical limitations, Rick could be seen on any day walking his beloved dog Willie to Turbats Creek, at the Kennebunk Dog Park chatting with friends and neighbors, working on a project in his yard, or just spending time with one of his adored grandchildren.
A friendly, funny and kind man, Rick was an endless source of information.  Many would seek him out for advice or just to chat.  In recent years, Rick and his wife travelled frequently, most often with friends-- Lahaina on Maui, Key West, and Jackson Hole being some of their favorite places.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife,  Barbara; 2 children and their spouses, Cori and Chris Donaghy of Natick MA, Chrissy and Chip Howarth of Kennebunkport ME; 4 grandchildren, Anna Howarth, Lydia Howarth, Maree Donaghy, and Keira Donaghy; a sister and her spouse, Harriett and Bob Hallagan of Dover MA; 2 nieces, a nephew, 2 great nieces and 3 great nephews.
A memorial service is planned for June 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.  at the Wildwood Chapel on Turbats Creek Road (next to the Rhumb Line Resort) Kennebunkport.  In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation to the ASPCA.
