June 9, 2017

Our Dad, Walter Simpson (Walt) passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 9th at his home in Cape Elizabeth.  Dad was born in Portland April 29, 1937, the third child of Everett and Genevieve Egan Simpson.  Dad graduated from Portland High School with his high school sweetheart, Brenda Carter in 1957 and they were married in November 1959.

Dad started his career in Boston to study airline reservations and worked with National and Northeast Airlines which later became Delta Airlines.  He returned home and made a career in employment placement, starting with Project Exit, a public service working to find men and women being released from prison employment opportunities.  The position from Project Exit led to a position with Maine Probation and Parole where dad worked as a parole officer.  Dad also worked for the Training Resource Center and was a part-time deputy sheriff for Cumberland County and a state bail commissioner.  In 1992 mom and dad started Allen Flag Company out of their Cape Elizabeth home.  Being a man who just can’t sit still, at 80 dad was driving for Uber and loving it!

Dad was a man who truly loved and enjoyed people.  A wrong number could lead to a lengthy conversation and the possibility of knowing the person on the other line or knowing a mutual acquaintance.  His humor and antics were the life of the party with practical jokes and unexpected shenanigans.  He loved to travel with mom and us kids, taking a number of cruises, a trip to Ireland, the Grand Canyon and Marco Island. Dad was very family oriented and happiest with his children and grandchildren.

Dad is survived by our mom, Brenda, his wife of 57 years, his son Edward and his wife Theresa, daughter Robyn Allen and her partner Larry Weathers, granddaughter Rachel Allen and her partner Chris Petrin, Katelyn and her partner Brandon Perry and his grandson and namesake Walter, his sister Barbara Farrell (James) and Patricia Robbins.  He is predeceased by his parents, our sister, Kimberly and his brother, Donald.

A memorial service with be held at the Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 21, at 11 AM.
