Waltraut Dora Renger, 88
PORTLAND - Waltraut Dora Renger, 88, of Portland, loving mother and dear friend, passed away on July 16, 2017, peacefully in her sleep.

A private memorial will be sponsored by her family on July 22, 2017, followed by interment in her native Germany later this summer.

Waltraut was born in Barsinghausen, Germany on August 6, 1928. She emigrated to the United States in 1956, originally settling in Michigan before moving to New York's Long Island in 1963 to raise her family. Shortly after the death of her husband, Martin, in 1975, Waltraut returned to Germany to care for her elderly parents, only to return to the United States in 2000 following their deaths in order to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Waltraut was a dedicated home-maker and care-giver who took great pleasure working in her beautiful gardens and caring for others, including active participation in many community volunteer activities. She particularly enjoyed cooking and baking for her many friends and family, and she spent a small lifetime knitting and crocheting for family and a variety of charities.

Waltraut is survived by her two children, Juergen Renger and his wife Joan, and Barbara Amabile and her husband George; her grandchildren Thomas Renger and his wife Jessica, Michael Amabile, Nicholas Amabile, Karin Sastic and her husband Joseph, and Brian Amabile; her great-granddaughter Heidi Renger; her brother HansGeorg Noack and his wife Lisa, and her sister-in-law Hilde Noack; her cousins, nieces and nephews in Germany; and a wonderful collection of close friends here and in Germany.

Waltraut is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Renger; her parents, Otto and Marie Noack; as well as her brother, Otto Noack.

The family of Waltraut Renger wishes to send special thanks to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine, for their extraordinary and gracious care during Waltraut's final moments.
