Ruth Ann Henry
PORTLAND, MAINE - Ruth Ann Henry, 91, died peacefully August 6, 2017 after an illness of several months.
She was born May 27, 1926 in Enola, PA to the late Walter and Anna Fry Maulfair. Ruth graduated from Enola High School in 1944.
She worked as a switchboard operator until her marriage in 1952 to Mark Edward Henry of Landisburg, PA. Tragically, Mark passed away within a year of their marriage, and Ruth remained in Landisburg. She and her mother operated an apparel and gift shop from their home, and Ruth later went to work for Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA until her retirement.
She moved to Portland in 2004 to be closer to her family, and enjoyed 13 years’ residence at Deering Pavilion. Ruth enjoyed sharing stories with family and friends and was dedicated to many pet cats over the years.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was predeceased by a half-sister, Kathryn Brosey. Surviving are Ruth’s daughter Kathy and husband Bob Hughes of Portland, grandchildren Sarah Hughes of San Francisco, CA, Jimmy and his wife Caity Hughes of Nashville, TN, and Owen and his wife Diana and a great-granddaughter Delaney Hughes, all of San Diego, CA.
The family thanks the staff at Seaside Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center and Compassus Hospice and Palliative Care for the loving attention Ruth received in her final months.
A service in Landisburg is planned for a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Peter’s Cemetery Association, 35 McCabe Rd., Landisburg, PA 17040.
