Janice Dobben, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, passed away on October 9, 2017, finally gaining freedom from the Parkinson’s Disease which held her prisoner for over thirty years. She was 76 years old. She died at the Barron Center in Portland, Maine, which had been her home for the last several years.

Jan was born Janice Ethel Ordway on October 16, 1940 in Amesbury, Massachusetts, to loving parents Daniel Emerson Ordway and Caroldean Rines Ordway. She was a graduate of Berwick High School, living most of her life in the Berwick, Maine area. She especially treasured the years she spent raising her son, Scott, in Largo, Florida. She was lovingly and tirelessly cared for by her mother for several years before entering the Barron Center - their friendship was truly rare and special.

Besides making a home for her son, Janice enjoyed music - especially Barbra Streisand and showtunes, riding her bicycle, and traveling. She was happiest when spending time with her family and pet cats. She was also an avid lover of all things chocolate.

Janice is survived by her son, Scott Dobben, daughter-in-law Stefanie, and granddaughter Sophia, all of Gorham, Maine; Her brother, Albert Ordway, and sister-in-law Dolores of Hubbardston, Massachusetts; Nephew Tim Ordway of Bell, Florida; Niece Christine Girouard of Hubbardston, Massachusetts; many cousins, one great-nephew, and two great-nieces. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Leo Gregory Dobben. Her family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at the Barron Center for their loving care over the last several years.

There will be a celebration of Janice’s life at a later date to be announced. Memorial donations in her name may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at www.michaeljfox.org.

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 NLT)
