Leonard, Marcia obituary photo 20.jpg

Marcia Leonard, beloved wife of Lawrence Leonard, died peacefully at home with the help of Hospice Care, many wonderful nursing aides, and her children, David and Carol.
Born in New York City in 1931, Marcia entered Bryn Mawr College at age 16, and met Lawrence at Haverford College.  They married after Lawrence’s first year of medical school in June 1953, had a wonderful full life living in Boston, France, and Kentucky, and then came to Falmouth in 1967. Marcia had many talents: she worked as a chemist, then started two businesses, “Plant Interiors” and “Sale by Owner”, which she sold. She then started a new career writing fiction, with one of the earliest novels published on the Web; her novel Fingerprints was published 2012.

Marcia was a wonderful cook and gardener, past president of St. Mary’s garden club, a sailor, an enthusiastic world traveler, and member of Maine Mycological Assoc, Inc.  She volunteered as a Spanish translator for Agape in Action (in Quiche, Guatemala), and as a literacy tutor of English as a Second Language in Portland.  She also volunteered at the Volunteer Lawyers’ Project in Portland and at the Falmouth Memorial Library.

Our family wants to give our deepest thanks to Fred Aronson, MD., Chiara Batelli, M.D., PhD., Mark Wrona, M.D., at New England Cancer Specialists, as well as all the wonderful caring staff there, and Hospice of Maine, who helped us immensely in this most difficult time.

She will be sorely missed by her husband and children: David, and his wife Sara, of Falmouth; Carol, and her husband Dan, of Windham; Mark, of Tampa, Florida; grandsons Eli, Jake, and Griffin; as well as her sister Sylvia, of Washington DC, and her nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be private.
