WELLS – Sheila Marie (Paris) Brown, 78, died peacefully on the solstice Thursday, December 21st at York Hospital surrounded by her family.  She was born July 3rd, 1939 in Worcester MA, daughter of the late Eugene Denecke Paris and Ethel Gertrude (Simonds) Paris.

While still a student at Commerce High School, Sheila found employment in downtown Worcester with Sears & Roebuck, where her father had worked for many years. On May 11th, 1957 she skipped her high school graduation ceremony to marry fellow Sears employee Frederick Charles Brown with whom she spent nearly 58 years until his death in April of 2015.  Over the years Sheila not only managed the household budget, but often assisted with the bookkeeping in her husband’s business ventures.

Along with her parents, Sheila was predeceased by her husband Frederick Brown and her son, Kevin Patrick Brown. Survivors include her brother William Paris and his partner Sally Roberts, daughter-in-law Katherine Henderson, daughter Kathleen Brown and her husband Michael Wentworth, grandchildren Jotham Magocsi and his partner Erica Ackerson, Abraham and Nell Henderson-Brown, Nathan Tower and his wife Nova Tower, and Marleah and Samuel Wentworth along with two great-grandchildren, Eloise Tower and Stephen Magocsi.

Throughout her life, Sheila was a lover of music.  She was a talented piano player with the ability to sit down and play almost anything without the benefit of sheet music. A lifelong baseball fan and member of Red Sox Nation, in the 60’s and 70’s she would frequently be listening to the Sox game playing in one of her ears via transistor radio, often to the irritation of her husband. The role she found most rewarding and best suited for her however, was that of loving grandmother. All of her grandchildren looked forward to the time spent with the woman known to them as “Nan”, who was legendary for rolling out the most delicious Christmas Eve feasts and carefully crafting elaborate and imaginative birthday cakes each year.

The family of Sheila Brown would like to thank the medical staff of York Hospital for their care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sheila’s honor to the Maine Youth Rock Orchestra at www.maineyouthrockorchestra.org/donate or by calling (207) 613-6525.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 12th at 3PM, at the Wells-Ogunquit Center at Moody (www.wocam.org), located at 300 Post Road (US Route 1) in Wells, Maine.
