Margaret I. Carnahan
December 11, 1928
December 9, 2017

Margaret I. Carnahan passed away peacefully at her home on December 9, 2017.  She was born December 11, 1928 in Weatherly, PA, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Rambo) Wilde.  She was the youngest of 4 children.

Margaret later moved to Pottstown, PA and upon graduation from Pottstown High School she went to work for the telephone company.  In 1947, she fell in love and married William G. Carnahan.  Together they raised 3 daughters.  Margaret found real satisfaction in her role as wife, mother, and homemaker.

Early in their marriage, Margaret and Bill, after a careful study of the Bible, developed a true friendship with God.  She learned of His wonderful name, Jehovah, and His promise to transform our earth into a beautiful garden paradise that “the meek will inherit”.  In 1961, she was baptized and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  In 1973, she and Bill moved to Maine, where they were affiliated with the Newcastle congregation and later moved to Portland where she remained a faithful member for 31 years.  Her husband passed away in 1988.  She was generous and hospitable.   She provided care for her disabled granddaughter, encouraging her to become a disciple of Christ Jesus.

Margaret is survived by:  her brother, Charles Wilde; 3 daughters, Linda Ceschan of Florida, Margaret “Peggy” Clementz and her husband, Larry, and Rebecca Barnes and her husband, Curtis; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie, Amy, Erin, and Johnny; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the South Portland Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 100 Strout St., South Portland.

The family expresses appreciation and thanks to Hospice of Southern Maine for the loving care and support shown by nurses and aides.
