“Ours is not to question why...Ours is but to do or die.
Cumberland-Everett I. Marino, 40, passed away unexpectedly April 1, 2018. He was born in Providence, R.I. and moved to Maine as a young child. In his early teens, he spent some time with the Green family but ultimately returned to Providence and graduated from high school.

He spent time in Louisiana learning skilled trades such as hydraulics and fabrication. He was also skilled in auto mechanics, welding, and carpentry. In his early 20s, he joined the USMC and achieved rank as a staff sergeant. He spent two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan which ended when his unit was hit by a car bomb. He spent 1.5 years in Landstuhl Hospital in Germany recovering from his injuries. He was extremely proud of his 8.5 years active duty in the Marine Corps. Upon discharge, he worked various jobs including underwater drill platform welding for Exxon.

Yearning for a family He returned to Maine two years ago and reconnected with the Green family, he quickly became our son, brother, nephew and cousin. Although he exuded a tough, marine persona, he was a gentle, sensitive soul. He loved nature, animals (including standard poodles and chickens). “Fixin things”, he also enjoyed cooking gourmet meals for friends and family He had a special connection with Children, teaching them how to swim, plant seeds and turn a wrench; and they, in turn, enjoyed his undivided attention.
He had a witty, dry sense of humor which provided us all with many happy memories. When “mom” got uptight about something, he would just say “easy, gunpowder “  He left us too soon but it appears he accepted his final assignment to his forever home.

He is survived by his loving foster family, Gary, Sandy, Allie and Garrett Green, Uncle Dana, cousins G.P., Erica, Meggie, friends Julie, Carley, Patty, Charlie, Matt, Jay and Sean and many other acquaintances. We plan a celebration of his life July 2018 at the family compound.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at MMC for their loving care and MMC, Portland Police, Fire departments and all others for the touching hallway tribute for his service as a Marine. As Everett would say with his gravelly voice, “above and beyond and thank Y'all.”
