July 24, 2018

Portland-Vivian C. Drury was born on March 18,1930 in New York City, where she lived most of her life.  She succumbed to cancer on July 24, 2018 in Portland, Maine where she lived her last year to be near family.  Her parents were from Ireland and Germany.  Vivian was a lifelong Artist, graduating from the NY Art and Design HS and earned her Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from Pratt Institute in her 50’s.  She was a woman of and before her time.  She made a living as a Commercial Artist and ran her own business using many modalities.  Vivian taught classes at the Art Students League in NYC.  She was famously independent and travelled the world, often to visit friends in faraway places.  Vivian also loved ballroom dancing, which she continued to enjoy into her 80’s.  She was friendly and outgoing with countless ‘adopted children’ everywhere she went that she helped along their journeys.  She was open to learning and studied many different ways of life and faiths that she shared with others.  Vivian was greatly loved by the extended family she created around the world.  She raised 3 daughters who gave her 5 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter:  Tina Gleisner, Nina Kretschmer and Mickie Kucinkas (husband Gene); Jason (Emily and daughter Chloe) and Ryan Blank, Danny Kretschmer, Joy and Gene Kucinkas III.

A private service will be held for the family.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough, ME or The Art Students League in NY, NY.
