South Portland- Raymond Le Comte of South Portland Maine died peacefully surrounded by his family at the veteran’s home in Scarborough Maine.  He was the youngest child of six, born in Topsham Vermont February 16, 1929 to Laureat Le Comte and Rose Robert Le Comte. He was raised in Manchester New Hampshire and joined the navy in 1946. He served as a gunner mate second class during the Korean War for a total of eight years.  Once leaving the military he settled in Sacramento California where he went back to school on the G.I. bill for chemical engineering.  After graduation he met and married Anna Bodenlos from Pittsburg Pennsylvania and started their family. After working as an engineer in Sacramento for a couple years he moved his family back to New Hampshire, then Massachusetts and finally Maine where he considered this his home.  Once he retired from Fairchild semiconductor he decided to go back to school, this time choosing The Landing boat building school in Arundel Maine. His project was a 30 foot Malabar sail boat where he received his diploma in boat building. Ray used his skill to build kayaks and wood strip canoes and furniture for friends and family. All of our homes are filled with his wonderful creations. Ray was an avid gardener, he was that neighbor that had more zucchini than he knew what to do with, he would leave it out on a stand for anyone walking by!!  Ray loved to golf and and in his spare time drove for ITN which he enjoyed because he could talk to the passengers and share stories. He was a member of the VFW post 832 in South Portland where he would bring his homemade baked beans for the Veterans Day celebration. Our family would like to thank Ally, Sue, Tom and all of the staff at the Maine Veterans home for the excellent care they provided.  Ray is survived by his wife Anne of 61 years, children Michelle (Alex) Kasny, Ray Le Comte (Jennifer Jortberg), Jeanne (Robert) Durocher, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren which he very much enjoyed. His humor and willingness to help others will be missed. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. A graveside ceremony is to be held Sunday, August 26th, at the Highland Memorial Cemetery South Portland at 12:30. The reception will be private.
