Portland – Ronald Austin Ward, 84, passed away Sept. 18, 2018 at Maine Medical Center. Ron was born in Portland, grew up in New England and attended Hinkley School.

He joined the U. S. Marine Corps at age 17 in 1951 and saw combat action in the Korean War, receiving the National Defense, Korean Service and United Nations Medals. After his military service, Ron became a General Motors master mechanic. In later years he worked in recreational Real Estate development with Leisure Living Communities and became Vice President/Project Manager of Frye’s Island and Lake Arrowhead Estates.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Joyce Wuchert Ward. Ron was a dedicated family man and is survived by his children, Ron, Sara, Chris, and Amy, his grandchildren, Jennifer, Chelsea, Tabitha, Heidi, Luke and Nellie and great grandchildren, Mabel, Charles, and Joseph as well as cousins Elliot and Carolyn. Ron loved entertaining as well as story-telling, and enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was a Boy Scout Master and with his wife, Joyce, volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the Maine Veteran’s Home of Scarborough for their excellent and caring service to Ron.

An informal celebration of life will be held at the home of Ron and Lori Ward: 15 Spring Lane, Sebago at 2pm on Saturday September 22, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maine Veteran’s Home of Scarborough, 290 U. S. Rt 1, Scarborough, Maine, 04074 are greatly appreciated.
