Dorothea Meredith (born May 8, 1920) passed away peacefully on October 12, 2018, after a long, full life. ~

Born in Winthrop, Massachusetts, to Walter Gordon Black and Evelyn Jefferson Black of Nova Scotia, she grew up with her sisters, Evelyn, Lillian and Marjorie. ~Dorothea attended Winthrop Public Schools and on the advice of her practical father, attended Chandler Secretarial School to learn a trade. They married in 1950, settled in Wellesley, MA, and raised two children, Rob and Jody.

After opening a yarn and fabric store in Conway, NH, they moved to Chocorua, NH. Dorothea served as bookkeeper and made many of the display items. ~Throughout her life she loved to paint, embroider, knit and sew. She regularly volunteered for local libraries and hospitals.

Upon retiring, they made a home in Bow, NH, where they lived until Robert’s death in 2001. ~Dorothea moved to Falmouth, Maine in 2002, and built a new community of friends there.

She is survived by her eldest sister Evelyn Higgins of Dayton OH, her daughter Jody and husband Carl Dimow of South Portland ME, her son Rob and wife Sarah of Brooklyn NY and their sons, Jesse and Russell. ~

The family would like to thank the kind and thoughtful staff of Falmouth House who took excellent care of her in the last years of her life.
