February 25, 2019

Bruno Sumislaski, 71, gave his last breath on Monday, February 25, 2019, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Born on July 13, 1947 in Rockville CT, Bruno was welcomed into the world by Bruno and Mary Sumislaski Sr.  He graduated in 1965 from Rockville High School then enlisted himself in the Air Force to see the world. He and Candice married on June 19, 1971. After completing his Air Force service, Bruno and his family moved to Sanford, Maine. He decided to share his laborious work ethic for over 15 years to the Post Office, as his dad did before him.

Words cannot capture everything that Bruno was. His titles included Brother, Uncle, Husband, Daddy, and Grandpa just to name a few. He had an amazing sense of humor and enjoyed laughing whether it be at the antics of his family or at TV shows. When he was working at the Post Office, he always had a bowl of candy ready for the customers and there was a choice of chocolate or dum-dums. Halloween meant we always had the regular size candy to give out and there was no skimping on portions, everyone could take 2 or 3 in his opinion. Genealogy work on his family was a passion and he would be extremely excited when he found a particular record of interest (how cool to see signatures of your family at Ellis Island!). UCONN Basketball games would get him rather worked up and when both Mens’ and Womens’ teams won he was over the moon with joy and had to frame the shirt his sister sent, which is still hanging above his desk. There were many activities that were exclusive to Grandpa, including but definitely not limited to: taking the kids to school, picking them up, and going for a haircut.

Bruno is survived by his wife, Candice, and their three children, Michael and his wife Amanda, Catherine,  James and his wife Ashley; his sister, Lois Crawford and her sons, Bradford, Thomas, and William; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Katheryn Sumislaski; his grandchildren; Autumn, Christopher, Alisa, Parker, Natalie, Wyatt, and soon Cordelia.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday March 2, 2019 at 1:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 25 Westview Dr, Sanford, ME. The official burial will be in the Spring.

As he was known to be a supporter of many organizations, please take a moment to donate even $5 to the organization of your choosing in his memory.
