Samuel Brann Page, 95, died peacefully June 18th, 2019 at South Portland Nursing Home, surrounded by family. Sam was born September 6, 1923 in Dexter, ME to parents Almon R. Page Sr., and Kathryn W. (Smart) Page.  Sam attended Dexter schools.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, serving during WWII the Asiatic Pacific Theater.  After the war, Sam attended the University of Maine at Orono and received a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1950.  He married Ruth (Ridge) Page of Portland in 1953 and had 4 children.  Sam taught school in China, ME for a time, before moving back to Dexter where he worked as a supervisor in the textile industry.  He was widowed in 1971, and remarried in 1974 to Charlotte (Lotte) Babette (Fröehler) Page, with whom he had twin sons.
Sam was a voracious reader and intellectually curious.  He gardened, and was passionate about the outdoors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed canoeing and camping with his children, grandchildren and brother Jake, and loved walking in the woods. He began running and mountain biking in his 50’s, and continued to do so well into his 80’s.
Sam is survived by his six children, Samuel P. Page of South Portland, Thomas A. Page and his wife Theresa, of Durham, Michael A. Page of Saco, Ellen Page McGill and her husband David, of Windham, Matthew A. Page of Issaquah, WA, and John S. Page of Dexter, as well as 6 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Sam is predeceased by his two brothers, Almon R. Page Jr., and Rodney (Jake) S. Page, and by his wife Lotte Page, who passed away in February of 2017.
Sam lived a long, healthy and active life, and will be missed by many.  His children wish to express a special thank-you to all the wonderful people who cared for him so lovingly at South Portland Nursing Home during the last years of his life.
There will be private celebration of life for Sam in Dexter, ME, later this summer.
