Frederick W. Bates
South Portland- Frederick W. Bates, 61, passed away on January 10, 2020 in Scarborough. The son of Wesley and Carmella (St. Germain) Bates, he was born in Island Falls on March 21, 1958. He played baseball when he was young while in school, and graduated from Erskine Academy in China ME. After graduation he served in the United States Airforce, and then attended the University of Maine in Orono. He completed an apprenticeship, and became a Master Electrician. He worked as an electrician for the rest of his life.
Fredrick was an avid musician, and played the guitar and sang. He enjoyed skiing, and watching the Boston Red Sox and the Portland Sea Dogs. He devoted a large amount of time to helping those in recovery.
Fredrick was predeceased by his parents, and his nephew Colin Bates.
He is survived by his son, Cole McMannus and significant other Birgit Zeus, of Gorham, his granddaughter Grace McMannus, his siblings, Michelle Klam, and her husband Dorian of Bangor, Peter Bates of Dixmont, and Erin Bates Letourneau, and her husband Stephen of Scarborough, and several nieces and a nephew.
There will be no services.
