Sean Alan Kinney was born on April 24,1970 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Shannon Meaney Strickland and Alan Reid Kinney.~~Sean spent his early childhood in Connecticut, teen years in Florida, and most of his adult life in his beloved Maine. Sean passed away peacefully with the blessings of loved ones present on Saturday, January 30 2021, after complications from abdominal surgery.

As a youth Sean played baseball and football.~~As a teenager he spent a summer helping his Aunt Anne and Uncle Bob build a microhydro-power system and lived off grid in the Yukon wilderness.~~His romance with the wilderness followed him home to Maine where he helped his Dad on a rural property before moving to southern Maine. He loved the outdoors.

Sean had a certificate in small engine repair and was always tinkering with things to make them go.~~He loved motor bikes and electric bikes and things that, in general, went Varooooom! His hobbies included artistic doodling, listening to music, and especially seeking life’s higher truths.~~He was an avid reader and studied the teachings of Jesus, Eckart Tolle, Don Miguel Ruiz and Deepak Chopra. He absorbed these teachings and made them part of his daily life.

Sean was best known for his loving soul and big heart.~~He was well-liked by many people, and the word “friend”, to Sean, included everyone he hadn’t yet met.~~His smile was infectious, his interest in people and places profound. Upon hearing the news of his death, one of his friends had this to say...”Sean was a special light in this world. He was always there for me when no one else cared to be. He kept me afloat when I needed a life vest. He had such a big heart. A big sense of humor and a fun loving quirkiness that I cherish and will miss. I thank God for Sean being a part of my life, because I wouldn’t be where I am today (a Crisis Support Counselor at a stabilization unit) if it were not for Sean. My dedication and love for my work will honor him always. He was my light when my spark was too dim to see. Sean has
touched more lives than anyone could possibly know. His goodness and his loving heart are his legacy. He is loved.”

As an adult Sean had more than his fair share of health issues and other difficulties, but rose above those disadvantages like a hero conquering formidable foes, growing more loving and compassionate as the years passed. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family… his parents, Shannon and Maynard Strickland and Alan and Sherri Kinney, his aunts and co-godmothers Aunt Pam (Ron) and Aunt Anne (Marc), Aunts Kate (Phil), Paula and Lynn, his Uncle Richard, his Great Aunt Bonnie (Fred), ~and Great Aunt Pat (Dave), his sister Kim (Jay), brothers Tyler and Daran, nephews Nick, Jack and Max, and his cousins Heather (Larry), Shealeen (Chris), Maggie (Jeff), Jessi, Reid (Hannah), Alison and Sarah (George).~~He is predeceased by his grandparents Keith and Wilma Kinney, Bob and Peg Meaney, his uncles Bobby and Bob and his cousin
Carey.~~

The family particularly wishes to acknowledge the amazing assistance given unstintingly by Sean’s Aunt Pam Tozier. She was with him every step of the way, helping him more than words can say. Also a special thanks to Sean’s cousins Sarah and Hannah for all the extra love they showered on him, as well as his incredible friend, mentor and neighbor Charlie. Thank you everyone who helped Sean throughout his journey, and thank you, Sean, for enriching ours.
