Bill Grosvenor died 18 February 2020 in South Portland Maine. The Pandemic delayed a Celebration of his Life.

He was born on June 21,1952 in Providence, Rhode Island. His parents were the late William and Lucy Esther Pitts Grosvenor of Pojac Point, North Kingstown, RI.

He attended Moses Brown School in Providence and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Nasson College, Maine. He received a Master of Science and a PhD in Zoology from the University of Rhode Island. The subject of his dissertation was “The Physiology of Feeding in Hydra”.
He worked as Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Associate and Research Consultant at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia. Prior to these he was a Water Quality Technician at Nasson College and a Chemistry Technologist at Roger Williams General Hospital in Providence. He also loved teaching in the Department of Zoology at the University of Rhode Island. For his retirement he chose to live in Maine, but continued to commute to Rhode Island to tutor students.

Bill enjoyed very much gardening and cooking. He loved sailing and the sea. He was also a collector of books, gemstones and glass ware.

He is survived by his three older sisters: Lucy A. Grosvenor of Stratham, NH, Mary G. Winkes of Damariscotta, ME and Jane G. Hand of East Greenwich, RI, two brothers-in- law, four nieces, one nephew and their families. He had four grandnieces and one grandnephew. He always showed great interest in the members of his family. On holidays he liked to provide them with his canned vegetables and juices. Aside from his scholarly publications he also wrote an unpublished cookbook.

The Celebration of his Life with reception to follow will take place on Friday, October 08 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard in Providence. Those who would like to attend the interment of his ashes at noontime are welcome to gather around 11: 30 am near the chapel.
