Helen Ann Clement Steeves, born March 4, 1944, to Helen Theresa Manning Clement and Francis Clement, of Lowell, MA, died May 14, 2022, at Pinnace Nursing Home, South Portland, ME. That day, Helen, left this earthly life to meet her Lord Jesus in the air. Her wise counsel and willingness to help others will be remembered. Helen’s passion was, “Forgetting what is behind and pressing on the high calling of Christ Jesus”. Her motto was, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

“Well done, thy good and faithful servant”, she is hearing for she served her Savior well.

Helen was raised in Lowell, Massachusetts with her four brothers, Fred Clement (deceased), Dick “Sliver” Clement (deceased), Walter Clement (deceased), and Ray Clement. ~Helen was the “baby” of the family. As a child, she was active in the Brownies, the choir at St. Peter’s in Lowell, and the Lowell Girls’ Club where she learned cooking, sewing, dancing, and Christmas crafting. She attended St. Patrick’s School, Lowell High School, Woban School of Business, and Fazioe’s School of Cosmetology, where she began her “hair-doing” experiences with a perm that took a whole day.

Helen was a hard-working, reliable, and dedicated employee. Her first job was with Symphonic Company working the assembly line. From there, she spent many years in quality control at Wang Laboratory and American Optical. Upon moving to Maine in 1988, Helen became a devoted caregiver for the elderly.

Helen married David Graham Steeves in 1975, in Methuen, Massachusetts. They were married twenty-six years. “My Dave, there was never a man like him. He was a good provider, often traveling many miles to repair office machinery to earn a living. He built two beautiful homes for us. My Dave tried to teach me to read maps. He tried!! And tried!! He was a patient man! I never learned!”

~Helen helped raised her two step-children, Leslie Steeves Bayley and Eric David Steeves (deceased). Helen was the aunt to several nieces and nephews, many of whom remained friends and supporters throughout her life. They are Trisha, Sarah, Darlene Clement, Gloria Clement, and children, Barbara Clement, Sue Clement Marques, Cheryl Clement Gauthier, Michael, Laura, and Travis Clement. Helen had one grandchild, Eric David Steeves, Jr.

Helen had many friends. She said, “I never stopped thanking God for all of you and praying for you. You visited when I was sick, sent cards, flowers, gifts, and called me. ~When my husband died people went out of their way to befriend and comfort me.” I am grateful for all the friends the Lord blessed me with!”

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Emmanuel Assembly of God, 1571 Washington Avenue, Portland, Maine.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 am Wednesday May 25, 2022 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco, Maine.
