Stephen E. Nelson
Stephen E. Nelson passed on August 14, 2022 in Portland, Maine after a brief but well fought battle with cancer.
He is survived by his three children David Nelson, Jonathan Nelson (Ashley Page Nelson), Amy Nelson (Luis G. Rivera), four grandchildren, partner Carol Kinney, sister Marianne Jacobs (Harold Stewart), brother Jim Nelson (Joan Nelson), and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Andrew Nelson, mother Lillian Nelson, brother Andrew Nelson, and brother-in-law Edward Jacobs.
Steve was born on March 9, 1948 in the Bronx, NY and raised in Dumont, New Jersey. He was a graduate of Paul Smith’s College and The University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He had a rich career in hospitality, including the Marriott and Harrison Conference Services. He then turned his skills to hospital administration, successfully rounding out his career at North Shore LIJ System in Bay Shore, NY. Steve raised his family on Long Island and retired to Florida.
Steve spent many years traveling around the country by RV, a lifelong dream of his completed. After meeting his life partner, Carol, they enjoyed winters in Palm City, Florida and summers on Peaks Island, Maine. Steve loved to golf, travel, and visit with family. He will be remembered for his boisterous laughter, his gentle and caring personality, and his ability to strike up conversation.
A celebration of life will be arranged in the coming months for family and close friends. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Steve.
