John Vernor Whittenburg, Jr
Jack Whittenburg, 70, died Monday, September 4, 2023 at Gosnell House in Scarborough after a painful battle with liver cancer.
He was born November 9, 1952 in Stamford, Connecticut, to Elizabeth Jo Hailey and John Vernor Whittenburg. He graduated high school in Stamford and attended the American University in Washington, D.C.
Jack always appreciated a good book or crossword puzzle. He was an avid bridge player and earned numerous masterpoints. For a time he worked as a chef in restaurants. After going to work for US Airways he still delighted family and friends with his culinary prowess.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Cathie Whittenburg and her husband Lenny Shedletsky of Portland, his niece Jo and nephew Noah, four great nieces and one great nephew.
