Dr. David Margolis PhD, 78, passed away on September 22, 2023 after a six-week battle with COVID and pneumonia. David attended Hofstra, the University of Bridgeport, and received his PhD at the California School of Clinical Psychology in 1979. He graduated and married his wife, Gayle on the same day. He had a psychology practice for 43 years.
David was born in New York City. He shared stories about games of street ball, riding his bike until he got “lost” and then making his way home, and fishing off the Battery. Although David’s earliest love was spin-fishing after learning about fly fishing and fly tying; there was no turning back. He loved anything related to the sport and took several annual trips to fly fish with friends. He fished for trout in Maine, New England, the great fishing rivers in the Yellowstone area, Argentina, and had the trip of a lifetime to Kamchatka in eastern Russia.
Other loves in his life were jazz and bird hunting with his friends and English Setters. He bird hunted in Maine with his beloved bird dog, Eve. One extraordinary trip took him to Scotland.
In 2017, he was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). He received wonderful treatment with Dr. John Paul Winters at New England Specialists in Scarborough. Dr. Winters found a clinical trial for him at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He experienced outstanding results until his death from COVID.
Dr. Margolis did not want any memorial service upon his death. He asked that any donations in his memory be made to New England Cancer Specialists and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Lymphoma program.
