Anna-Lisa Larsdotter
Anna-Lisa Larsdotter, 91, passed away peacefully at Seaside Rehabilitation Center in Portland, Maine on October 12, 2023.~Born on May 12, 1932 in Uddevalla, Sweden, she graduated from the Enskede Läroverk school in Stockholm and immigrated with her family to the United States in 1952, eventually settling in Summit, NJ.~

A gifted visual artist, she worked mostly in abstract expressionism and collage. ~She studied with Will Barnet at the Art Students League in New York City, winning awards for her work, and continued studies with Henry Pearson at the New School for Social Research. She worked at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) as a Cataloging Associate, assisting with archives and acquisitions. Anna-Lisa was also a member of the Summit Art Center (now the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey), serving on its committee, chairing events, and receiving awards for her work exhibiting there.~

From the late 1960’s to mid-1970’s she was a member~of~the critically acclaimed avant-garde theater group of Robert Wilson and the Byrd Hoffman School of Byrds, playing the lead role of Queen Victoria in the Paris production of “A Letter for Queen Victoria.” She appeared with the group in several productions in New York and other locations, including the 168-hour marathon production of “Ka Mountain and Guardenia Terrace” at the 1972 Festival of Arts in Shiraz, Iran.

In addition to her love and fascination with art and color, Anna-Lisa enjoyed traveling, knitting, reading about magic and mysticism, and doing genealogical research.~ Her broad experience in the art world and diverse interests inspired many of her family and friends to explore their own creative, academic, and spiritual paths. She will be remembered as a dedicated and caring daughter to her parents, and as a loving and uplifting spirit who touched many lives and adored her family and friends.

Anna-Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Lars Helge and Signe Svensson, her sisters Anita and Margaretha, brother Lars-Gunnar, and her ex-husband, Erich Weibel.~ She is survived by her sister Gunnel Larsdotter of Portland, ME, brother Per (Gus) Svensson of Garland, TX,~and~16 loving nieces and nephews,~as well as~many grand-nieces and nephews.
